A COVID-19 qRT-PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) test. This test will determine an outcome for SARS-CoV-2 at the time of testing.

PHE do not approve laboratories or tests for COVID testing. Please reference the UK government website for further information. The (RT-qPCR) test kits are approved for use in the UK and Europe.

You will receive your qRT-PCR certificate of analysis for travel via email within 24 to 48 hours of us receiving the test at our lab.  Please print it off and take a hard copy with you to take to the airport or ferry as they will usually ask to take a look at this.  You may also be required to upload the certificate to the country government website.

You can choose to return the sample to our partnered laboratory by a means appropriate to your personal travel plans you can go to a priority post box, pay for a courier, pay your own special delivery or visit a labs drop box location, you are free to make your own choice of return.

Each kit if purchased includes a prepaid Royal Mail TRACKED 24 bag which you can post via a priority post box, Royal Mail aims to deliver back to our partnered laboratory the next working day however delays have happened in the past so you may want to again consider make your own arrangements by special delivery.

The labs drop box locations are in the North East of England should you wish to drop them straight in.

Please order your kit as soon as you can to avoid risk of postage delays. The PCR Home test kit can be stored for around 6 months until you are ready to take your sample. Please confirm your specific requirements with your airline or embassy for your travel destination to confirm your border entry requirements as we are not responsible for this.

PCR Test results are generally returned within 48 hours from the time the sample is received by the laboratory although it is usually quicker than 24 hours. We are not able to guarantee this so you as an individual must be aware of the risk in delays.

If you place your order prior to 12pm Monday – Friday, your order will be dispatched the same day and should generally be delivered to you the following day.

Orders placed after 12pm on Friday or over the weekend will be dispatched on Monday and should generally be delivered to you on Tuesday.

Please note – we have seen some postage delays in the past. We advise ordering your kit as soon as possible so you have this in time for when you are ready to take your test. PCR Travel Tests will not be liable for any outcomes as a result of postage delays.

How does the process work?

  1. Order your test in plenty of time.
  2. Place your order before 2pm for same day shipping via Royal Mail except on a weekend.
  3. A typical example, if you order on a Thursday after 2pm we will post this out to you on the same day, the post would have been missed after 2pm, so. it would leave Royal Mail dispatch for next day delivery on a Friday, Note:  The next day delivery on a Friday would be Monday as Royal Mail do not do guaranteed Saturday delivery unless this is personally purchased by you.  You can choose to purchase from us a kit which includes a prepaid Royal Mail TRACKED 24 bag which you can drop off at a priority post box nearest your location.
  4. Register your kit online and plan for when the best time to take your test by following the airline and country of destination guidelines.
  5. Take your sample specimen as per the test instructions enclosed within the kit.
  6. Royal Mail state that they aim to return postage by the next working day (See Royal Mail website for further details).  This is not guaranteed, we have experienced customers posting on a Thursday and packages not arriving until a Saturday.  So if time is more critical, we suggest returning the sample via one of the drop box locations (there is no additional cost to you),  or you can make your own arrangements. In any case, we provide no guarantee and are not liable for any delays or costs due to late return of kits to our partnered laboratory.
  7. From receiving samples, results will typically be available within 24-36* hours via email PDF but allow as much time as possible should your test require re-run to determine the outcome.
